Backyard Landscaping: More than just Grass

When you think about Backyard Landscaping, do you think grass, flowers, and trees? You are right, that is part of the landscaping. Most of us want landscaping that is low maintenance, yet beautiful.

You can have all of that, and more. Have you thought about talking with your landscaper about creating a garden area that blends in with the landscaping? If your mind just created a visual of a big rectangle of bare ground with lots of weeds, that is not what we are talking about.

Think about a garden that blends in with your backyard landscaping. It is beautifully formed with rocks or pavers that you use in the rest of your yard so it doesn’t look out of place. If your flower beds are curved, your garden will also be curved. If you have multiple flower beds, you can multiple smaller garden beds.

Why include a garden area in your landscaping?

  1. If you have children, it is educational. They can see different plants grow – science class. They can also be part of caring for the garden and have the satisfaction of eating what they cared for. It can be a great way to teach responsibility and satisfaction for a job well done.
  2. A garden gives you fresh vegetables that are healthy for you and your family. You will know that your vegetables are not covered with poisons used to keep bugs away.
  3. For those who have a New Year’s resolution to exercise more, a garden provides that. You will be outside in the sunshine, and bending, lifting, pulling, digging, and stretching. It’s an enjoyable way to exercise.

Are you thinking it might be the year to add a garden to your backyard landscaping?
